International Office

Art and science are international. A survey among graduates of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from the academic years 2000 to 2018 has revealed that the majority of former students who went abroad during their years of study are better connected and more active internationally after completing their studies. In the course of their regular studies, more than one third of Academy graduates took part in at least one study-relevant mobility programme beyond other international activities.

The International Office of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna helps students find their feet in an international environment and supports exchange students from partner universities to integrate into everyday study life at the Academy. The Office provides information, counsels students on grants and helps them through the application process; it provides support throughout the mobility phase abroad or at the Academy itself and helps students obtain their certificates and recognition of achievements after their sojourn abroad.

The mobility programmes offered are based on tertiary partnerships with renowned art universities in Europe and other countries. One of the numerous advantages for students lies in the fact that they are exempt from study fees at both the partner institutions and the Academy itself.

Via the Erasmus programme, the International Office offers Academy lecturers the opportunity to teach internationally, to keep in touch with colleagues from abroad, or to participate in international advanced-training courses.

With the acceptance of the Erasmus Charta for Higher Education, the Academy has also explicitly committed itself to ensuring equal opportunities for women and men, to the integration of international students and teachers, to supporting students and teachers with health problems, to strengthening social coherence, and to fighting xenophobia and racism.
