Open Access Funding

For open access publications, there are various funding options in relation to the publication fees incurred. What applies to all open access funding options is that only article processing charges (APCs) or book processing charges (BPCs) are eligible for funding and that the publications must comply with the respective open access policy.

    FWF Open Access Block Grant

Effective as of January 1, 2024, costs for the open access publishing of work (peer-reviewed journal articles, contributions to edited volumes, etc.) resulting in whole or in part from FWF-funded projects are supported by means of an Open Access Block Grant provided in addition to the approved project budget.

Processing takes place directly through the research institution and in the form of a submission via the Academy's submission platform. Details on funding criteria and submission procedures can be found under the link to the open call.

Open access funding as part of other third-party funded projects

Numerous funding organizations support scientists with subsidy for publications published open access. Depending on the funding program, specific requirements and guidelines apply for possible financial support of open access publication costs.

Please check the funding agreement and funding conditions and, if necessary, clarify eligibility and conditions with your contact person at the funding organization.
