The Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna is currently accepting applications for the following position:

University Professor
of philosophy and aesthetic theory at the Institute for Art Theory and Cultural Studies according to § 98 of the Universities Act 2002 (Universitätsgesetz 2002). This professorship is appointed for 20 hours per week for the duration of 4 years, starting in October 2008.

The duties cover holding the chair of the department, teaching at least 6 units a week in the field mentioned above, supervising theses and dissertations and the willingness to participate in university committees.

Application requirements:

  • A degree in the field from an Austrian university, equivalent foreign university or a qualification that may be considered equivalent;
  • excellent academic qualification in a relevant field;
  • research and publication activities;
  • proof of pedagogic and didactic skills and experience;
  • proof of appropriate international experience and practice in art and cultural criticism outside academia;
  • relevant competences, knowledge of interdisciplinary art theories and cultural studies;
  • willingness to participate in university committees and to cooperate with colleagues.

Preferred qualifications:

  • knowledge of the recent discourse on contemporary art production and its intersection with contemporary philosophical and cultural studies theories;
  • ability to hold a chair and to contribute to developing the arts and sciences by promoting the Academy’s research activities.
