Lecture Carolin Bohlmann: Preserve what is in motion! Documentation as conservation practice
At the end of the positive decision to extend the fixed-term contract, Carolin Bohlmann, director of the IKR, publicly presents her ideas and plans for her current and future professional activity at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
Carolin Bohlmann has held the professorship for Conservation - Restoration of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna since February 2020. Based on her many years of practical professional experience and research on the conservation of modern and contemporary art, her scientific research topics are primarily in the area of conservation practice and its documentation. There are interfaces that are of central importance for the work of the academy as a whole: terms and fields of practice such as reproduction, repetition, process art, immateriality, institutional criticism, sustainability.
Carolin Bohlmann has been able to deepen her focus on four research areas over the last four years as part of her teaching and research work. These include international, currently relevant research fields that expand the field of conservation-restoration in a transdisciplinary manner and promote an intensive connection between university and museum knowledge spaces: the conservation-restoration of time-based media works; conceptual art and its (im)material tradition; preserve process art; material culture of conservation.
Carolin Bohlmann is currently working on future research projects - for example on documentation methods in conservation - which she will discuss in her lecture.
