Andrea Kessler | Architect materialnomaden
Andrea Kessler is mentor of Lina Eberle
Andrea Kessler, * 1977 in Linz, is a founding member of materialnomaden gmbh for circular design & architecture. Since 2017, she has been a board member of the HarvestMAP cooperative – a platform for the distribution of reuse building components. After completing the Graphic Design College in Linz and a year working in the graphic design field in Munich, she studied architecture with Zaha Hadid and digital art with Peter Weibel, among others, at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
Following her interdisciplinary studies, she worked as a freelance artist on interventions in public spaces and subsequently focused on participatory spatial development. Vacant spaces and existing structures – what is already there – serve a foundation and source of inspiration for sustainable spatial solutions, adaptations, usage scenarios, as well as the development of new spatial and design objects. The built environment itself – especially vacant buildings, structures slated for deconstruction, and urban development or construction projects involving existing structures – is seen as a valuable resource. In the line with the principles of Circular Design, materiality and identity are preserved and combined or supplemented with new elements. Together with civil engineer Peter Kneidinger, materialnomaden gmbh pioneers integral planning and the incorporation of reuse process throughout the construction workflow to promote a more sustainable building culture.
