Guest lecture with Robert Gamblin (Portland, Oregon) in cooperation with Deffner & Johann and the Professional Association of Austrian Restorers (ÖRV).

Gamblin Conservation Colors® (GCC) are considered a standard for retouching in conservation. Robert Gamblin provides insights into the development of GCCs and explains their properties and application.

Robert Gamblin, a leading producer of artist oil colors since the early eighties, introduced Gamblin Conservation Colors® (GCC) in 2000. He has been able to merge very specific requirements in paintings conservation and scientific research with skills and production capacities of a true paint maker. GCC combine stability, safety of use and quality of manufacture with excellent optical and working properties. This made them a standard for retouching and inpainting around the world. Robert Gamblin's presentation provides insight into the development and manufacture of Gamblin Conservation Colors®. The materials are presented and the possible uses and properties of the colors are explained. Depending on knowledge and experience, some things will not be new, but the presentation offers the chance to hear this information from a person who was part of the team involved in the material selection and formulated the color palette in terms of its processing properties (hue, opacity/transparency and viscosity). - This talk will be followed by a Q&A session.
