Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld, Portrait of Friedrich Rückert, 1818, pencil and ink on paper © Graphic Collection of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna

A drawn portrait depicting a young gentleman from head to chest. He wears shoulder-length hair curled to the ends in a severe centre parting, as well as a fine moustache. His face can be seen diagonally from his left side. The serious and sceptical gaze is directed to the right. The name "Friedrich Rückert" is written centrally at the lower edge of the picture. To the left of it near the corner of the picture it says "1818", to the right of the name there is written "Rome, on 1 October".
