Guilherme Pereira Maggessi de Oliveira is an artist, researcher, and graphic designer. These fields of activity often intersect and influence one another in his projects. His practice is driven by a concern with the material conditions for the production, circulation, and reception of (visual) images. His most recent (and still ongoing) work series, titled Fields are, of course, made, came about through his final project for the Master in Critical Studies program at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. It explores the co-existence of two artworks in the collection of the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna.
Since 2020, he has been one half of Maggessi/Morusiewicz, a duo that researches, makes films, curates, performs, and creates artworks together. The duo has presented artworks, curated exhibitions and screenings, performed, and showed films in several institutions and independent spaces, including Belvedere 21 (Vienna), film place collective (London), hungry eyes festival (Gießen), Kunstraum Lakeside (Klagenfurt), MKC Gallery (Split, Croatia), SPEDITION (Bremen), and wuk performing arts (Vienna). They currently co-lead the artistic-research project “W/ri/gh/ting Archives through Artistic Research“ (2022-2026, PEEK AR716).
In early 2024, Maggessi has joined the board of IG Bildende Kunst.
