Call for Papers: Graduate Conference 2016

The next Graduate Conference takes place on the 17th of June, 2016 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.

The Graduate Conferences take place twice a year. Whereas the conference in January has workshop character, the conference in June presents the possibility for five or six doctoral candidates, who find themselves in the finalization stage of their dissertation / PhD-project, to give a public presentation about their dissertation / PhD-project or an aspect of it. Every presenter has a 25-minutes time slot for the talk (incl. presentation, videos etc.) and the same amount of time for the following discussion. Each talk will be moderated by a colleague of the Academy who is not supervising the respective PhD-student. The presentations can be held in German or English. The conference will take place all-day.

The Graduate Conferences aim at a stronger visibility and integration of the doctoral candidates at the Academy of Fine Arts and the furthering of the exchange and networking among the PhD-students themselves as well as with the researchers and artists of the Academy. Furthermore, the Graduate Conferences are essential in enhancing the discussion of dissertations and PhD projects. Debates between disciplines, which are not part of every-day life, are also desired.

Please hand in:

  • Name of the doctoral candidate
  • Title of the dissertation / PhD-project and preliminary tabel of content or overview of the chapters (if you have one)
  • Abstract of the planned presentation (max. 3.000 characters, incl. blanks)
  • Short biography
  • Short recommendation of your supervisor (one or two sentences are sufficient)
  • Current "Studienblatt" (certification of enrollment). I.e.: You have to be a regular student of the Academy.
  • Short information about the starting date and the expected finalization date of your PhD
  • Favored language of the presentation (English or German)
  • Email-address

The deadline for the submission of the documents is 25th of April, 2016 . All documents have to be submitted as one compiled PDF-document per email to doktoratszemtrum@akbild.ac.at .

The preparation group of the Graduate Conference will choose about six talks.
