Art and (Anti)Fascism. Left Exhibition History in West Germany
Lecture by Friederike Sigler
The talk examines the thesis that the progressive engagement with the legacy and possible continuities of National Socialist art and aesthetics in West Germany was mainly achieved through exhibitions and the related curatorial practices, many of which were ahead of academic art history.
Friederike Sigler is art historian and research associate at the Institute of Art History at Ruhr-Universität Bochum since 2020. Her research focuses on art and labor, including her dissertation Arbeit sichtbar machen. Strategien und Ziele sozialkritischer Kunst seit 1970, published 2021. Her current research project is dedicated to the reception of fascism in art since 1968. She recently published an issue of kritische berichte on the subject together with Kathrin Rottmann entitled Kunst und (Neue) Rechte.
