BEFORE mobility | study place confirmed

Before your stay, you are required to take several administrative steps. If you keep to the checklist provided for each program, though, nothing can go wrong.

Take note of the conditions of entry and residence in your host country if you are not an EU citizen! If required, be sure to apply to the host country for a student visa in good time. For this purpose, you must use the Letter of Acceptance issued by the partner university and – for Erasmus – the Learning Agreement with all the required signatures.

3. World Wide Exchange | Exchange Cooperation Europe

Prior to their study exchange, students who have decided on a particular partner university from these mobility programmes are advised to have the equivalence of the courses at the partner university with the curriculum of the Academy confirmed by the head of the competent curricula commission. Please contact Eva Bruchmann to obtain the form Vorausbescheid (advance notice). This guarantees that any academic achievements a student has made during their study exchange are recognised after their return.

Partner universities outside Europe have no ECTS (European Credit Transfer System), which is why it is especially important for exchange students to obtain information on the courses they completed there. You will find more detailed information in the section Recognition of Achievements.

  • Title and type of course (lecture; workshop, project, tutorial, …)
  • Number of credit hours per week and/or exact course times for the entire semester (timetable)
  • Content of the courses

Furthermore, you will need to do the following:

  • Enroll at the Academy also for your semester abroad
  • Pay the Austrian National Union of Students membership fee: it includes an accident and indemnity insurance valid on the premises of the partner university and at the Academy.

If they have applied for an exchange with an art university in a third country, students can apply for the Foreign Exchange Scholarship for Students of Universities of the Arts www.grants.at.

Students receiving an Austrian study grant can apply to the Austrian Study Grant Authority for a special grant if they are going to a third country to study. More information can be found on Stipendium.at.
