Defense of Belinda Kazeem-Kamiński, Ph.D. in Practice
The Ph.D. in Practice Program of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna kindly invites you to the Defense of Belinda Kazeem-Kamiński ’s dissertation project Fleshbacks & H(a)untings / Notes on Research, Blackness, Empaths, and the Destruction of the World As We Know It.
The Defense Committee is made up of: Moira Hille (chair), Anette Baldauf and Renate Lorenz (1st and 2nd supervisor), and Fatima El-Tayeb (UC San Diego).
Repeated encounters with a past that refuses to be past, and the flashbacks and hauntings that result from it, stand in the center of Fleshbacks & H(a)untings / Notes on Research, Blackness, Empaths, and the Destruction of the World As We Know It , a creative non-fiction in four chapters. Three personas are haunted by an ongoing past, and, as they will only realize much later, by an ancestral presence – the Chorus.
Please join us for the defense presentation, and a fading in and out between film, text, and sound.

Belinda Kazeem-Kamiński is a writer and artist living in Vienna, Austria. Rooted in Black feminist theory, she has developed a research-based and process-oriented investigative practice that often deals with archives, specifically with their gaps and blanks. Interlacing the documentary with the fictional, her works manifest themselves through a variety of media and dissect the present of an everlasting colonial past. She is currently a guest professor at the Academy for Media Arts Cologne.
We are very much looking forward to welcoming you all.
