Are You Crazy?: Unconditional Hospitality in Contemporary Art
Guest Lecture by Irina Aristarkhova organized by Marina Grzinic, Post-Conceptual Study Program (IBK).
Drawing on a wide range of theoretical discussions of hospitality, the talk will provide a broader framing of the various approaches contemporary artists adopt in mobilizing this notion, specifically analyzing the works of Lee Mingwei (Taiwan / USA), Kathy High (USA), Faith Wilding (USA), Ana Prvacki (Singapore / USA), Pippa Bacca (Italy), and Mithu Sen (India). The lecture opens a wider dialogue about and critical appreciation of specific works that are often regarded extreme in their provision of hospitality.
