In/Stable Relations - Time-based Art and their Environments
Lecture by Moritz Wehrmann, Internationales Kolleg für Kulturtechnikforschung und Medienphilosophie, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in the context of the lecture series SoSe21 of the Institute for Conservation-Restoration, conceived by Carolin Bohlmann and Almut Schilling.
Variable and time-based media artworks address challenges related to the transience of material and technology. Their preservation often involves the careful weighing of material and conceptual integrity: terminologies, media-theoretical questions, material processes and object biographies are to be discussed, compared, translated and redefined.
In order to enable targeted preventive action and thus to preserve multi-media, network-based, performative and interactive artworks, a discussion is needed that utilizes necessary expertise and enhances the transdisciplinary collaboration between artists, computer scientists, cultural scientists, film scientists and material scientists.
The lecture series aims to name the thematic overlaps and conceptual links and to foster networking between the disciplines relevant to the preservation of time-based media artworks.
