RE:Ukraine System. Architectural response to the challenges of war
Lecture by Slava Balbek, Kyiv (in Englisch); Moderation: Michaela Geboltsberger, ig-architektur, Austria
Millions of Ukrainians have been forced to leave their homes due to the war. Kyiv-based practice balbek bureau has analyzed the global experience in the development, construction and maintenance of temporary housing. Building on this experience, Slava Balbek and his team developed the RE:Ukraine Housing system for internally displaced persons.
To help residents of Ukrainian villages restore their homes damaged or destroyed in devastating Russian attacks, balbek bureau launched the RE:Ukraine Village project. Architects develop a design code for each affected region considering local architectural features and offering various layouts, materials, roof shapes, window frames, and color schemes to choose from when (re)building a house.
Slava Balbek is a Ukrainian architect and founder CEO of balbek bureau global architecture and interior design studio. He is a project supervisor, architect at RE:Ukraine System and RE:Ukraine Monuments, founder of propro furniture brand and creator of the SIDAA initiative aimed at Social Impact Design and Architecture.
