zwischenwurzeln - between the roots - art students at a forest museum
An exhibition project by the studio Expanded Pictorial Space-Action/Sculpture/Installation. At the opening there will be a funeral for a tree with a procession starting in the local chapel accompanied by the horns of the Reiflinger Bläser.
A spruce, a tree of a species that will disappear in the Austrian alps due to climate change, is conserved by Andreas Sahl Andersen in a refrigerator, and thereby protected against global warming. This system though still is dependent on its life-line - the cable connecting it to electric energy. Theo Bartenberger shows us landscapes that will soon be buried under concrete. Presented upside down, he physically reverses the concrete sealing of the land. The traces of the bark beetle are the starting point for Inessa Saarits' form finding process. The destructive work of the insect as a foundation for new concepts? Benjamin Ben Amotz stages the funeral of a tree, with a rocession accompanied by a brass band.
The necessity to rethink our relationship with nature is highlighted by all of these four works. Absurd approaches are not factored out. The notion of "thinking different" is applied radically by the artists.
