ANIMATION AVANTGARDE - Artists present:
Lectures and Performance by
MACKENZIE CHAMPLIN, QI ZHUANG & MAX HATTLER
Three filmmakers from ANIMATION AVANTGARDE are invited to shed light on technical, philosophical, biographical, or other aspects of their work for about 30 minutes. Whether it's a workshop discussion, performance, or in-depth audience dialogue, the nature of the AA ARTISTS PRESENTATIONS is up to them. This year, the invited guests include US architect Mackenzie Champlin (ABRUPTLY LAID TO REST), Chinese animation artist Qi Zhuang (SURVIVED FROM ILLUSIONS), and German media artist Max Hattler (TWENTYTИƎWT).
While Champlin focuses on the utopian interplay of architecture and environment, Qi Zhuang's works are influenced by Buddhism and symbolism, weaving abstract cosmological ideas with objects and sounds in an intimate manner. Max Hattler, on the other hand, explores the space between abstraction, representation, and movement. He will introduce his audiovisual performance PATTERN/SOUND: LIVE (2024), which explores live-generated graphical sound, as part of the session. (dhe/bb)
