Around 1990 the academic exhibition programme at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna saw a significant upheaval that was closely tied to the progressive, forward-looking Institut für Gegenwartskunst (Institute of Contemporary Art). A new approach of exhibiting emerged out of this context characterised by critical, reflective, performative practices of resistance. This was also the period of rebellion against the professors who ran the masterclasses and autocratically dictated exhibition practice within the academy. Drawing on selected examples from around 1990, the show examines exhibition strategies related to arts education into the present day with a focus on autonomous projects by students.

Contributing artists include Monika Abendstein, Steffi Alte and students, Stefan Beck / Manu Burghart, Bernhard Cella, Hubert Dobler, Sylvia Eckermann, Urban Grünfelder, Peter Kozek, Geschwister Odradek - Michaela Mück and Gerhard Veismann.
