In the context of the exhibition
The Poiesis of Composting
(open until 12.02.22 at Exhibit Eschenbachgasse), curators Guilherme Maggessi and Rafał Morusiewicz have invited Vienna-based kollektiv sprachwechsel ( www.kollektiv-sprachwechsel.org ) to perform a reading of a collectively written theatre play. This reading will be followed by a brief writing workshop, during which the public is invited to collectively imagine the play’s ending(s).
In a discussion moderated by the curators, the metaphorical concept of composting, central to the exhibition, will be extended to the realm of the text. We will focus on navigating the following questions: What does it mean to produce texts in a language in which one has not been socialized? Can translation be understood as a form of mutation? How does reading in another language change the way one writes? How does writing in another language change the way one reads?
kollektiv sprachwechsel is a multilingual group, whose aim is to foster the production of literary texts in German as a second language. The members of the collective were not socialised in German, and they write in this language. This is their common denominator.
