The Holy Kinship by Lucas Cranach the Elder- Insight into a restoration project at the Paintings Gallery
The Holy Kinship by Lucas Cranach the Elder (around 1510/1512) is one of the highlights of the Paintings Gallery collection. Within the frame of the Lange Nacht der Forschung we explain the conservational challenges of the painting and take a look beneath the paint layers using infrared reflectography.

Claudia Koch (Head of the Paintings Gallery Collection) explains the conservational problems of the painting and the resulting necessary measures. Ernst Hammerschmid (INTK lecturer) presents an example of the infrared reflectography examination method, which makes it possible to look under the paint layer.
