  • Award winners 2023/24

    For the academic year 2023/24, the Academy will award the following prizes to distinguished graduates and students:

  • First UNIQA Art Prize 2024 goes to Emma Hummerhielm Carlén

    In cooperation with UNIQA, the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is awarding the UNIQA Art Prize, which is endowed with €15,000, for the first time. This makes it one of the most highly endowed prizes for young artists in Austria. It goes to Emma Hummerhielm Carlén, a sculptor who is able to explore spaces in an extremely differentiated way and who convinced the jury members with her formally precise, minimal and powerful works. The prizewinner's exhibition will open in February 2025 in the foyer of the UNIQA Tower in Vienna.

  • The Competition of Competitions: Summer School 2024

    The Summer School will take place from September 5 to 8, 2024 in cooperation with the University of Applied Arts Vienna and the Vienna University of Technology.

  • The Theodor-Körner-Preis goes to Rebecca Merlic and Vik Bayer

    Two alumni of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Rebecca Merlic and Vik Bayer, were awarded the Theodor Körner Prize 2023. The award ceremony took place on June 13, 2024.

  • University Library – Summer 2024 Vacation

    The University Library of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is on vacation. The Main Library will be closed from July 29 to August 18, 2024. From Monday, August 19, 2024, the team will be available again for your questions

  • Christian Kravagna curates exhibition at mumok

    Christian Kravagna (Institute for Art Theory and Cultural Studies) is currently curating the exhibition Avant-Garde and Liberation at mumok.

  • Art in Building Competition BUWOG x Akbild

    The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, together with BUWOG, is launching an art-in-building competition.

  • The Academy mourns the death of Sinan Gültekin (1960 - 2024)

    The Academy announces with great regret that Sinan Gültekin passed away in Vienna on June 8, 2024 at the age of 64. Gültekin studied to become a teacher of artistic subjects at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from 1985 to 1991. Since 2000 he has been a member of the Institute for Education in the Arts.

  • FID Marseille: World premiere for a film by Constanze Ruhm

    Constanze Ruhm's new film will have its world premiere at the FID - Marseille International Film Festival from June 25th to 30th, 2024. Constanze Ruhm is a professor in the Studio for Art and Time | Media at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.

  • The Academy mourns the death of Thomas Heise (1955-2024)

    From 2013 to 2022, Thomas Heise was Professor of Art and Film at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.

  • Samuel Bich receives Cathrin-Pichler-Preis 2024

    Samuel Bich receives the Cathrin Pichler Prize 2024, endowed with 2,500 euros, sponsored by the City of Vienna. The certificate will be awarded during the graduation ceremony on June 28, 2024.

  • Gustav-Peichl-Awardees 2024: Catherine Zesch and Otto Jaax

    Catherine Zesch and Otto Jaax receive the Gustav Peichl Award 2024, sponsored by the Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, Civil Service and Sport and the Society of Friends of the Fine Arts and endowed with 4,000 euros.

  • University Library – Closing Times in May

    The University Library of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is closed on holidays in May.

  • Kiosk – New Online Platform for Study Information

    Kiosk, the new platform for study information at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, has recently gone online in its full version in English and German. It offers comprehensive information on study programmes, application, counselling and all kinds of practical information about studying. New contributions from students are being published regularly.

  • "Ballonhalle" Campus – architectural competition decided

    The new "Ballonhalle" location of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna will provide sufficient space for teaching, research and science communication in the studios, laboratories, event and seminar rooms for students of restoration and conservation, as well as all students of the university's science education programs.

  • University Library – Spring 2024 Vacations

    The University Library of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is on vacation. The Main Library and the Branch Library at the Institute for Education in the Arts will be closed from March 25 to April 1, 2024.

  • UNIQA Art Prize 2024 - 15,000 euros for our graduates

    In cooperation with UNIQA, the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is inviting its graduates to apply for the UNIQA Art Prize 2024, which is endowed with €15,000 for young artists. In addition to the prize money, there will also be the opportunity to hold an exhibition in the UNIQA Tower in Vienna, which will open in February 2025.
