Samuel Bich receives Cathrin-Pichler-Preis 2024
Samuel Bich receives the Cathrin Pichler Prize 2024, endowed with 2,500 euros, sponsored by the City of Vienna. The certificate will be awarded during the graduation ceremony on June 28, 2024.
The jury consisting of Felicitas Thun-Hohenstein, Magdalena Stöger, Dorit Margreiter, Stefanie Seibold, Verena Kaspar-Eisert and Ruth Schnell awarded Samuel Bich the Cathrin Pichler Prize 2024 from a total of 27 submissions. Bich completed his degree in Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna in 2019.
Archives, their materials and the intertwined processes of storage, accessibility of knowledge, as well as exhibiting and publishing, serve Samuel Bich in his artistic practice of field research and descriptions of finds. In the submitted project Recognition maybe, may not be useful - Cathrin Pichler Library, the artist reactivates the work of the Austrian curator and thinker Cathrin Pichler through an imaginary network of cross-connections that generates temporalities and analogies down to the level of her name, intertwines the present and the past, and sets supposedly secure knowledge in motion.
For the jury, Samuel Bich is an ideal prize winner, "who also contributes to updating and further reflecting on the work, practice and impact of Cathrin Pichler." The prize has been awarded since 2017 in memory of the thinker, curator and author Cathrin Pichler (1946-2012).
