Winners of the BUWOG Art in Architecture Competition announced

A jury of experts selected three winning projects from Atelier Ehrmann:Gruber, Viktoria Morgenstern, Fabian Puttinger and Michael Reindel for the art-in-architecture competition. The competition is a cooperation between BUWOG and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.

The prizewinners' projects will be implemented at up to ten BUWOG locations over the next ten years. The competition was aimed at graduates of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna who graduated no more than five years ago, in order to enable them to have a particularly sustainable form of presence in busy locations at home and abroad. The competition also comes with prize money of 5,000 euros.

The project "Geoid Neighborhoods" by Christina Ehrmann and Christopher Gruber impressed the jury as an extraordinary connection between the interior and the exterior, inspired by the research of Alexander von Humboldt and his "Measuring the World". The design is impressive due to its flexibility and invites you to think about the world and your own place in it.

With the project "Beyond the Laurel", Viktoria Morgenstern succeeds in dealing with the relationship between man and nature in a playful and at the same time accessible way. Inspired by the shapes of various types of laurel, the project conveys a feeling of openness and harmony. The participatory nature expressly desired by the artist in the implementation allows for great flexibility in the implementation, which the jury recognized as a contemporary approach.

The submission "Swap Station" by Fabian Puttinger and Michael Reindel convinced the jury with its remarkable approach to materials, ecology and sustainable construction, particularly due to the use of materials such as clay and excavated materials. As a zone of reflection in the middle of a transit space, the “exchange station” promotes the idea of sustainability by allowing things that are no longer needed to be handed in and used by others.

The winners were selected by an expert jury consisting of: Alfredo Barsuglia (artist), Ingeborg Erhart (Vice Rector for Art and Education, Academy of Fine Arts Vienna), Ingrid Fitzek-Unterberger (Head of Marketing and Communication, BUWOG), Alexandra Grausam (Curator, BUWOG), Michael Herbek (Head of Project Development, BUWOG), Lisa Ortner-Kreil (Curator, Kunstforum Wien) and Eva Sommeregger (Institute of Architecture, Academy of Fine Arts Vienna).
