Erasmus-visit of the Institut Seni in Indonesia

In January 2025, as part of the Erasmus+ project International Credit Mobility, Michael Höpfner (Department of Photography) and Angelina Kratschanova (International Office), together with students from the Academy, visited Institut Seni in Yogyakarta. The students participated in a workshop on The Weight of Water, Time, Matter, Space in Indonesia and Europe and presented their artistic work.

Particularly impressive were the studio visits with former graduates of ISI, including Heri Dono and Septian Puji Andriyanto.

In May 2025, a group of students and lecturers from Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI), together with students from the Academy, will further explore the topic of water.

The exchange between Institut Seni Indonesia and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is driven by a shared interest in new ideas and movements in contemporary art, particularly in relation to nature in an increasingly endangered world. In this context, it is essential to understand and address water as a vital resource amid rapidly expanding urban lifestyles. It is fascinating to explore how Yogyakarta and Vienna, with their distinct cultural and historical backgrounds, approach these challenges and how this knowledge informs contemporary teaching practices.
