The Academy mourns the death of Alastair Mackinven (1971-2025)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Alastair Mackinven. As Professor of Art and Image | Figuration, he had been part of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna since the winter semester of 2022/23. We have come to appreciate him very much as a particularly reflective and sensitive artist as well as an empathetic and committed teacher and we will miss him.
Our sincere condolences go out to his family and all those left behind, especially the students and teachers at the Institute of Fine Arts. We wish them a lot of strength in this sad time!
