FWF | 1000 Ideas Programme
This new pilot programme promotes research ideas that lie outside the current scientific understanding and accordingly outside existing funding programmes. By focusing on high-risk, original or transformative research at an early stage, it supports risk-taking and creativity and facilitates the development of novel, innovative research domains.
The target group are established researchers as well as researchers at the beginning of their careers, who lead the research project within the framework of a minimum 50 percent employment at an Austrian research institution for a maximum period of 24 months. The funding to a maximum of 150,000,- Euros, which can be used to finance personnel costs for the own position (up to a maximum of 50%) as well as employees, material, equipment, travel costs, other costs and 5% general project costs. The funding of doctoral positions is not possible.
Applications must be submitted anonymously and in English by the research institution via the FWF's electronic application portal. They will be reviewed by an international jury within the framework of a double-blind selection procedure. Decisions are taken by the FWF based on the recommendations of the 1000 Ideas programme jury in June 2020.
