The Theodor Körner Fund has set itself the goal of promoting young scientists and artists.
What can be submitted?
Scientific research, art, literature and composition projects in progress can be submitted. The Theodor Körner Fund awards its prizes exclusively for “work in progress”. The submitted project must have already been started, but not completed before the end of the respective application year. Submitted projects must have been conceived independently by the applicants, be carried out on their own and be realizable within two years. For the application year 2025, this means a completion deadline between January 1, 2026 and November 30, 2027.
Only research projects can be awarded in the academic disciplines. Mediation, translation and publication projects etc. are therefore excluded from the application process. Similarly, bachelor's and diploma/master's/master's theses, habilitation projects and contract research are generally not funded.
Prize money
The Theodor Körner Prize is endowed with € 5,000. It is awarded for outstanding projects, but represents direct support for the prizewinners and is freely available to them. Proof of the use of the funds is not required. With the exception of the foundation prizes, the prize money is paid out in two installments: the first (€ 3,000) after the prize has been awarded, the second (€ 2,000) after timely and proven completion.
Who can submit?
People are eligible to apply to the Theodor Körner Fund regardless of their citizenship and academic or non-academic status. For academics in each application category, however, the date on which the highest academic degree was obtained (in the case of several equivalent degrees, the first one applies) must not be more than six years ago. Any periods of maternity leave, sick leave or care leave are taken into account. The reference date for the application year 2025 is April 30, 2025.
The Theodor Körner Prize is awarded to individuals for a specific project. Funding cannot be awarded to several people working on a joint project.
