Tour through the discursive lab of Spheres and Cones: Plants as Practitioners

Together with biologist Ingeborg Lang and literary scholar Isabel Kranz, we will enter the in-between and thought spaces of Spheres and Cones: Plants as Practitioners and invite you to wander and contemplate the experiments together through partly scientific, partly fictional lenses.

Isabel Kranz

Isabel Kranz is a researcher in comparative literature. In 2011, she received her Ph.D. with a dissertation on Walter Benjamin’s Arcades Project. Her second book, on the language of flowers, has been translated into several languages. In her current project, she investigates the relations between literature and botany. She publishes on topics such as media and historiography, concepts of the future, Walter Benjamin, and the genre of the memoir. Isabel Kranz is a co-founder of the Literary and Cultural Plant Studies Network.

Ingeborg Lang

Ingeborg Lang analyses the cellular and structural components that render a plant more tolerant towards various stress factors. Among other topics, her work is focussed on mosses: evolutionary situated between algae and flowering plants, these organisms possess fascinating abilities to withstand environmental stress situations. Research interests include cell biology, plant physiology, plant anatomy, bryophytes.
