eikones Graduate School | University of Basel | PhD scholarships

eikones, the graduate school for the study of images at the University of Basel , invites applicants for a program of study beginning on September 1, 2016. Since 2005, eikones, the NCCR Iconic Criticism, and its graduate school have explored the power and meaning of images through interdisciplinary research.

eikones encompasses forty scholars from different disciplines whose PhD theses and Post-doctoral projects are grouped in modules dedicated to specific lines of inquiry. The graduate school thus offers PhD students numerous opportunities for interdisciplinary cooperation and scholarship.Selected projects are expected to study images from a systematic standpoint and, furthermore, to relate to a key concept of eikones: the “singularity of images.”

Dissertations must be advised by an appropriate faculty member at the University of Basel. Fellowships will only be awarded following consultation with the project’s adviser. Application Requirements–A degree in a field relevant to the subject matter, especially art history, music studies, philosophy, German literature, media studies, and Egyptology.
