Publication Series
The Publication Series of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna currently comprises 26 volumes, of which all books from volume 12 onwards are published by Sternberg Press, volumes 1-11 by Schlebrügge.Editor. The volumes in the series comprise collected contributions on subjects that are the focus of discourse in terms of art theory, cultural studies, art history, and research at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and show the international debate in this field. Research activities such as conferences, lecture series, institute-specific research focuses or art/research projects serve as the points of departure for the individual volumes.
The series is published by the Rectorate. The content-relalted orientation is determined by the Advisory Board, which consists of representatives of the institutes, the head of the library and the Rector. The advisory board is supplemented by a jury consisting of two external and three advisory board members, who make the selection for the realized publications. Every year there is a call for proposals in which the next books are selected.
In 2022, the series has undergone a revision and now focuses on text-based paperbacks that can be published promptly, both anthologies and monographs. Publications with more freedom of design, such as artist books, will appear supplementary. Volumes 27-29 with Sternberg and two design-oriented volumes are currently in the works, with publication planned for 2024. The Akademie Notebook Vol.# marks the start of the new format of the Publication Series and offers plenty of space for own thoughts and notes.
The books of the publication series are peer-reviewed (from volume 20 onwards) and are made available open access in the Academy's repository.
Already published are the following volumes:
