  • HDK-Valand – Academy of Art and Design | Fountains Failures Futures: The afterlives of public art

    Research and discussion of public art frequently focuses on conditions of emergence and production for public works. This symposium starts at the other end – thinking about the afterlives of public art with respect to processes of decline, decay, acts of reparation and reimagination, transformation and change. We are interested in questions of sustainability, custodianship and whether “failed” works can be revitalised and thought anew; how this raises implications for their authorship and ownership, and what challenges it presents for commissioners, artists, architects, and urban designers. How can producers, owners and custodians of public artworks and the communities and publics living with these works anticipate and accommodate complex afterlives of public art?

  • Short term grants abroad

    The scholarship for a short-term stay abroad for doctoral/Ph.D. candidates supports stays abroad for e.g. research, field research, archival research, interviews, which are necessary for the dissertation or the Ph.D. project. Stays abroad are funded for a minimum of two to a maximum of eight weeks.

  • SOUNDIMAGECULTURE | CALL FOR FILM PROJECTS SIC 2023

    SoundImageCulture / SIC is a one year program that accompanies filmmakers and artists in the development of their film or audiovisual project. At SIC a group of coaches - renown artists/filmmakers – and a group of peers will follow your project in a supportive and professionnal environment. SIC has been thought by filmmakers for filmmakers and audiovisual artists in order to help them break the solitude of the creation process. It is a framework based on the idea of thinking by doing, on discussion around concrete audiovisual materials. We look for projects that are authentic and push the borders of audiovisual language. We care about esthetical and ethical reflections connected to the project. Our aim is to support the participant develop a radical artistic vision.

  • Open Call of the Academy | Birgit Jürgenssen Award 2023

    Thanks to the support of Gallery Winter and the Federal Ministry of Arts and Culture, Civil Service and Sport (BMKÖS), the Birgit Jürgenssen Award will once again be awarded this year. The prize is endowed with 5.000 euros. In addition, on the occasion of the twentieth awarding of the Birgit Jürgenssen Award, a publication will be created in cooperation with the BMKÖS. This publication will also contain the work of the 2023 award winner and will be presented at the award ceremony in April 2023.
