Yasmina Haddad | Artist, photographer and co-director of School
Yasmina Haddad is mentor to Pille-Rijn Jaik
Born in Beirut/Lebanon, lives and works in Vienna since 1993.
Yasmina Haddad is an artist, freelance photographer and the co-director and part of the artists collective/ space SCHOOL (together with Andrea Lumplecker) founded in 2011 in Vienna. She also lectures on contemporary visual genres at the Academy of Applied Arts in Vienna and at the HGK/ FHNW in Basel.
Her artistic practice is based on photography and sometimes extends to different media such as sculpture, sound and set design. Recent works focus on how different cultural expressions are inevitably connected and how this reciprocal impact manifests through esthetics. The subjects shown often derive from the fields of fashion and theatre, and are portrayed in stage-like situations. Somewhat artificial and glossy, isolated from their usual settings, they depict socio-cultural processes and recall the malaise of postmodern sensitivities.
Yasmina Haddad´s work has amongst others been presented at Kunstraum NÖ Vienna, Beirut Art Center Beirut, mauve Vienna, DNS Berlin, Liu Haisu Museum Shanghai, Kunsthalle Exnergasse Vienna, House of Arts Brno, Gallery of the Academy of Applied Arts at Heiligenkreuzer Hof Vienna, Mak Vienna, ISCP NYC, The Lobby NYC, Station Intervention KÖR Vienna.
