Jun Yang is mentor to Lisa Großkopf
Jun Yang was born in China in 1975. His family immigrated to Austria in 1979. Studies with Michelangelo Pistoletto at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam.
Jun Yang has participated in numerous biennials, including the Sydney Biennale (2018), Gwangju Biennale (2012, 2018), Taipei Biennale (2008), Lofoten International Art Festival (Norway, 2008), Liverpool Biennale (2006), 51st Venice Biennale (2005), and Manifesta 4, (Frankfurt, 2002).
In recent years, Yang has focused on a series of solo exhibitions that took place at Art Sonje Center, Seoul in 2018, Kunsthaus Graz in 2019, and simultaneously at three exhibition venues in Taipei in 2020/2021: MoCA Taipei, Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts, and TKG+ Projects.
Yang is the co-founder of Taipei Contemporary Art Center (2009-2020) in Taipei. He is also the co-founder of ra'mien restaurant in Vienna (2002).
Jun Yang is the 25th Otto Mauer Laureate (2005) and received the City of Vienna Award for Visual Arts (2017). Yang has been on the board of the Vienna Secession since 2021. His monograph The Monograph Project (Vol. 1-6) was published in 2015 and 2018 by Verlag jovis, Berlin (edited by Dr. Barbara Steiner).
