Sami Mandee
Sami Mandee is mentee of Marianne Dobner
Sami Mandee graduated from the Art and Photography class at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna in 2022. The artist's work engages with translation processes using image, sculpture, video, and sound, exploring the relationship between meaning and its substrate, figure and ground, signifier and signified. In this playful and often humorous exploration of language, Mandee creates poetic and didactic works. His practice is grounded in art historical research focusing on characters and narrative methods in history, whose far-reaching rhizomes the artist attempts to weave together.
His works were exhibited in various venues, including Gallery AM180 (Prague), the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (Vienna), Le Frac (La Réunion), House Of Spouse (Vienna) and a recent solo exhibition at Bildraum 01 in Vienna. Mandee´s artist statement at Parallel Vienna received the Bildrecht Young Artists Award 2022. Additionally, he has been honored as the recipient of the 2024 international studio grant from the Bmkoes. This grant will support Mandee in continuing his psychogeographic investigations of Walter Benjamin in Paris, France, coinciding with the Summer Olympics.
