Jannik Franzen
Jannik Franzen is mentee of Stefanie Reisinger.
Jannik Franzen has been living in Vienna since 2014. Their research-based works question the role of science and institutions in shaping social norms and exclusions. They explore topics such as anthropological image production, medical body and gender standardization, cinematic negotiations of nature, as well as the structural impositions of the binary gender order and heteronormativity.
Jannik Franzen studied psychology at the Freie Universität Berlin, followed by a Master’s degree in Critical Studies and a diploma in Fine Arts with a focus on video and video installation under Dorit Margreiter Choy at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
In 2020, they were awarded the Birgit Jürgenssen Prize, and in 2024, the Recognition Award for Artistic Works by the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
