Rosa de Coster

Rosa de Coster is mentee of Anna Meyer.

Rosa De Coster, * 1996 in Belgium, is a visual artist who lives and works between Vienna and Brussels. She studied Graphic arts at KASK in Ghent, Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, and as part of an Erasmus exchange, Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich.

In her artistic practice, she combines sculpture, furniture design, surface decoration, drawing, and model building. Her sculptures evoke spaces of different scales, constructed from flat surfaces that serve as carriers for drawing and painting. Alongside to her visual work, she writes short stories connecting the objects to the world in which they were created. In this world, the intersection between large and small stories inspires her. Personal dreams become part of larger ideologies (while also holding the power to escape them), and the outside world enters even our most intimate living spaces.

Visually, her work draws on references including folk-art, early Renaissance painting, murals in Italian restaurants, Belgian interbellum design, architectural drawing, Portuguese majolica tiles, home-textiles, Brussels facades, and her grandmother's kitchen.

Her work has been exhibited in Vienna, Schwaz, Brussels, Ghent, Leuven, Munich, and Copenhagen.
