Sara Deraedt and Benjamin Hirte in conversation with Silke Otto-Knapp (artist, London) and Sören Grammel
The exhibition presents recent works by Sara Deraedt and Benjamin Hirte, confronting two approaches that, despite all methodical and formal differences, share an interest in how normality is constructed. Formats such as folder, leaflet, and poster provide Deraedt with the means to publish the material of her researches or photographic works and to again and again re-connote or deprive them of their meaning and appearance. Hirte’s installations and sculptures unfold situations whose astoundingly experimental understanding of space with its partially functional references seems to hint at the possibility of new, not only aesthetic life contexts.
