This Sentence Is Now Being Performed

The symposium will – from a viewpoint of a continually increasing presence of Performance Art in exhibitions, the art market, and in art theory debates – reflect on how teaching and research about performative art production can be conceptualized and carried out at an experi- mental art university. This reflection will take place in the context of Vienna, a site of key importance in regards to international performance history, Viennese Actionism on the one hand, and feminist discourse on the other.

This conference will deal with a range of fields, including art theory, teaching, research, and curatorial practice, all the while assuming that these fields have, since decades, been subject to expansion, thereby producing remarkable overlaps between these fields. An inquiry will be made into those practices and their modes of operation that constitute the con- temporary overlap of knowledge production.
