Book Launch and Discussion in cooperation with the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and the Zaglossus Verlag. The discussion will be in English.

When the Stonewall Riots broke out in New York City at the end of June 1969, none of those present could have imagined the far-reaching effects of their struggle against homophobia and transphobia. Today, in some cities gay pride parades have become so self-evident, it would be impossible to imagine their absence-whereby there are great differences in their orientation and the effects they bring about in society.

Queering Gay Pride explores these ambivalences based on the parades in Vienna, Amsterdam, Budapest, and Belgrade, and through numerous examples clarifies the potential for linking performative interventions, protests, as well as celebrations, and also how these can be understood as methods for emancipation.

Author and activist Marty Huber , in a discussion with Ulrike Lunacek , Austrian representative and vice-president of the Green/EFA fraction in the European Parliament and co-president of the LGBT Intergroup, will explore the pros and cons of transnational parades, solidarity and entanglements in hegemonic structures in the struggle for rights, visibility, and EUropean integration.
