In cooperation with the City of Vienna the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna is currently accepting applications for the following position:
Artistic-scientific assistant
according to § 100 UG 2002 (Universitätsgesetz 2002) for architectural design and research in connection with the Roland-Rainer-Chair at the Institute for Art and Architecture. This position is appointed for 20 hours per week for the duration of 3 years starting on September 1, 2009.
The new Roland-Rainer-Chair is financed by the City of Vienna for 3 years. It aims at embedding and further developing Roland Rainer’s notion of architecture in the study programs of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, reflecting his way of teaching as well as the consequences of his work and his awareness of responsibility in
architecture. It should consider the social, political and ecological perspectives beyond the question of pure design. The Roland-Rainer-Chair should maintain a productive dialogue with the Vienna Departments of City Planning and the professional and research communities concerned with Urbanism.
Application requirements
Completed master’s degree in architecture or a qualification that may be considered equivalent to a master’s degree in architecture.
Preferred qualifications
- Applicants should be knowledgeable about Roland Rainer’s body of thought and work.
- Their teaching and research work should relate to the platforms of
- GEOGRAPHY LANDSCAPE CITIES and/or
- ECOLOGY SUSTAINABILITY CONSERVATION and/or
- HISTORY, THEORY, CRITICISM
- At least one research project for these platforms is to be proposed as part of the application.
- special focus on research and ability to write applications for research funds;
- Experience in teaching and practice is required, as well as
- profound knowledge and ability to communicate methodological approaches;
- the ability to assess complex architectural tasks in their social, methodological and technical dimensions;
- In-depth intellectual and experimental work methods;
- the willingness and ability to take on organizational tasks and to work in a dynamic and independent manner;
- CAD skills;
- an excellent command of English and German;
The application should also contain a description of the applicant’s teaching approaches and previous course descriptions and student’s works (max. 2 pages).
